1860's Mens Fashion

The 1860's began a decade of military invasion, civil war, and social reform. With the Civil War occupying the first half of the decade, Napoleon III's invasion of Mexico in 1864 marked the second.

The most predominent vocations for men during this time in England were agriculture, fishing and industry. Almost two-thirds of the population now lived in cities. More than ever, ease and elegance in clothing mark the men's fashion of this period.
