The 1850's begin with one of the most celebrated events to happen during this decade: the International Exhibition of Art and Industry, which took place in Prince Albert's Crystal Palace in London in 1851, promoting the need for development and expansion in both the trade and manufacturing sectors.
Charles Frederick Worth left London for Paris in 1850, where years later he would revolutionize fashion. It is due to his imagination and skills as a designer, along with assistance from the Empress Eugénie, that the silk industry which had previously suffered from economic decline, found new energy and life through his use of silks and silk brocade in many of his creations.
